Are you wondering Huh?” “What is this all about?” “Is APICS going away?” “Have we been rebranded?” “Merged with someone else?” “What’s the deal?” Valid questions. Let me see what I can do to explain.
APICS - which has been around for 60 years now - has a rich tradition of education, training, and certification - for individuals. This tradition has made dramatic improvements at companies around the globe, improving inventory management and manufacturing operations. An APICS Certification is the industry standard for an individual's demonstration of supply chain know-how From APICS beginning as the "American Production and Inventory Control Society" we are now working in an end-to-end supply chain, from the supplier's supplier to the customer's customer. Things move fast. Three years ago blockchain was not even a term. Now it is the hottest topic in traceability.
This fast changing environment drives the creation of ASCM.
Question is, what is ASCM? Think of it this way: It is an umbrella. ASCM overarches several areas:
*The new ASCM Supply Chain Operations Reference for Enterprises (SCOR-E) certification is the first and only corporate supply chain certification. (I would call it similar to an ISO certification, but for supply chain). Its focus is a comprehensive evaluation of supply chains across three important dimensions: ethics, economics and ecology triple bottom line, anyone?). SCOR-E empowers organizations to evaluate their supply chains, improve results and be more competitive in today’s global business world.
*ASCM Global Alliances are customized relationships with other organizations that expand our products and services.
*ASCM Thought Leadership Collaborations are meant to enhance and complement current ASCM and APICS products and services. These include the American Institute of Artificial Intelligence, Guangdong Procurement and Supply Chain Association, Loyola University Chicago and UI Labs.
*Expanded learning opportunities in the ASCM Learning Center will cover multiple aspects of supply chain — including procurement, driving demand and leadership development — and offer professionals end-to-end learning and development opportunities online and on-demand as well as in person.Last but not least, APICS Certifications for individuals – CPIM, CSCP, and CLTD. Additionally, your local APICS/ASCM Chapter will continue to provide and enhance the “value-add” you receive from locally run certification classes, plant tours, professional development meetings, panel and tabletop discussions, and a number of other offerings.
I expect you still have a lot of questions around this. Please reference this link for the answers to FAQs on this situation: ASCM FAQ's
